Kimberly's interest in health began at a young age. After being diagnosed with asthma at 6 years old, she experienced a childhood dependency on Western medicine to control symptoms related to her breathing difficulties. Frustrated by her inability to naturally alleviate her symptoms she was drawn to study yoga and explore various holistic modalities in early adulthood.
Instinctively aware of the body's ability to heal itself, she obtained her B.S. from the University of California San Diego in Human Biology and interned in a prominent human physiology lab there. With lots of questions still unanswered, her journey took her to explore Eastern traditions whose philosophies aligned with her personal experiences and beliefs.
Kimberly Barrera received her Masters degree in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH, formerly Tai Sophia) in 2011. She is also a graduate of the 2 year Chinese Herbal Studies program and the Master's of Oriental Medicine program at MUIH. This program involved learning from some of the most prominent practitioners and teachers available to students of Chinese Medicine in the West.
Other studies have included a 200 hour course to become a yoga instructor, Thai yoga therapy, Chinese dietary therapy, Qi Gong, and meditation. She is also a mother to two beautiful children.
Treatments with Kimberly can involve various healing modalities including acupuncture, herbal remedies, gua sha, cupping, and moxibustion.
Kimberly's greatest strength in the treatment room is her curiosity. Asking the questions that need asking and might not have been asked before. The intention with each of her treatments is to help the patient accomplish or move towards optimal health and provide each client with the tools and knowledge to sustain a balanced physical, emotional and mental well-being. She feels extremely blessed to be a practitioner of this healing art.
